A voice AI rival from Facebook to Siri and Alexa

Facebook is working on a project to introduce its own AI voice assistant to the world. As they say, this AI supports on their Oculus headsets as well as on their Portal video-calling device; a message focused smart display which was launched in November of last year. Since 2018, augmented and virtual reality team of facebook has been developing a voice AI, led by Ira Snyder in Redmond, Washington. This news is according to CNBC.

”We are working to develop voice and AI assistant technologies that may work across our family of AR/VR products including Portal, Oculus and future products.” A spokesperson stated this news to the news organizations as above mentioned.

Facebook already has former experience in developing AI assistants. But they were not in a higher competition to be rival to Apple, Google, Amazon, and Microsoft. In 2015, facebook launched the M assistant for Messenger as AI integrations and bots including a chat-based virtual assistant. They scrapped it so recently, during the last year because it only had limited success. Users could command by saying “Hey Portal” for its smart display. But still, the device needed Alexa for complex tasks. It is a costly experiment and needed a great human effort. Now the process is in its early stage. So we may have to keep on looking to see Facebook’s voice assistant is how much automated and how far it keeps our privacy just with us.

Thank you...
